Stones in the Sun/ Wòch nan Soley
Directed by Patricia Benoit
“Wòch nan dlo pa konnen doulè wòch nan soley/ Stones in the water don’t know the suffering of stones in the sun.” – Haitian proverb.
A woman struggling to forget the atrocities she has suffered, reunites with her husband. A single mother striving for assimilation in the suburbs takes in her activist sister. And the host of a popular anti-government radio show finds his estranged father on his doorstep. Set in New York’s Haitian community, Stones in the Sun weaves together stories of love and family eroded by the fallout of political terror. Cast members include: Edwidge Danticat, Michele Marcelin, Carlo Mitton, James Noel, Thierry Saintine, and Patricia Rhinvil.
“For those forced into exile by political violence, these memories are pushed well below the surface, beyond the gaze of others, manifesting themselves in sometimes small, sometimes large ways. These exiles walk the streets of foreign cities dealing with the same issues as other lovers, parents and children, while trying to keep their wounds invisible.” – Patricia Benoit
